Tell us about yourself.

I’m a 22-year-old book, animal, and film lover. I was born in a land of creativity, chaos, and language called Bogotá. People call me Sofía or Sofí. I like anything related to communications, social media, travel, culture, and food…that’s why I love learning languages, going to new places, and meeting people. My parents are also from the Capital, but my grandmothers are from Prado, Tolima, and La Tebaida, Quindio, both beautiful places. My dog was born in Apulo, Cundinamarca. I strive to learn something new every day and maybe also teach something every day.

Tell us about your most memorable travel experience.

Choosing one experience is really hard because each place I visit leaves something engraved in my heart, either the people, the food, the landscapes, etc. If I had to choose one, it would be the first trip I did alone with my mom. It was always with my whole family, but last year (2022), my mom and I went to New York; it was a very different experience because we visited a lot of places we couldn’t visit the first time we went. We enjoyed each and every day there, but what makes it super memorable is that my mom and I became even closer than we were. We talked about many things, and now our relationship is the best it has ever been.

Dead or alive, who would you like to join you on an adventure?

My mother. I love going on adventures with her, and I love spending time with her in all kinds of places. We also talk all the time, so I’m never bored.

What are your travel equipment essentials?

I always pack sunscreen, my camera to take pictures and videos that immortalize each moment, water, my caps to protect me from the sun, comfortable shoes and clothes, but also an elegant outfit for a night out. A book is essential for the times I’m resting or when I want to have some me time. My headphones and phone to listen to music.

When did you feel happiest?

Fortunately, I’ve had many very happy moments, but I would say I’m the happiest when I’m with my friends, laughing so hard that it’s hard to breathe.

Who taught you your biggest life lesson, and what was it?

My dad taught me to be empathetic and kind. He said, “Treat others with kindness, compassion, and empathy because even the smallest act of kindness can have a significant impact on both the person you’re helping and you, and that’s what the world needs the most.”

You can teleport to any restaurant on Earth: where do you go, and what do you order?

I’m a big fan of Japanese food, so I’d like to teleport to a restaurant in Japan that sells delicious sushi, ramen, and takoyaki.

Tell us about the most adventurous food you’ve ever eaten.

I ate iguana in Curaçao. It was the strangest meat I’ve ever eaten and…I didn't like it!

Drink of choice?

Peppermint lemonade or passionfruit juice in water, no sugar.

Where do you feel most at home?

In my bedroom, cuddled up with my dog, watching movies.
