Meet our Bogotá, Colombia-based Senior Editor.

WhereNext-People–Interview-Senior-Editor-Juan-Camilo-Pedraza

Juan Camilo Pedraza is a filmmaker, videographer, editor, and illustrator (although he humbly refers to himself as a 'wannabe' in this area). He is also a dog lover.

Tell us about yourself.

My name is Juan Camilo Pedraza. My parents are from Santander, but I was born and raised in Bogotá alongside my three brothers. I’m a filmmaker, videographer, and (wannabe) illustrator passionate about art and storytelling. I love to read, cook, play basketball, and spend time with my dog. I’m afraid of rats and hate having to choose a favorite thing.

Tell us about your most memorable travel experience.

I think every trip you make leaves an indelible mark on you, and I’m lucky to say I have a lot of those. The first time I saw the sea in San Andrés with my whole family; in Rome, being surrounded by all the paintings and sculptures I’d only seen in art history books; seeing the giant sequoias in California; the first (and so far only) time I went to an NBA game; spending the night in a car, stuck in the rain and mud near Ráquira (Colombia).

Dead or alive, who would you like to join you on an adventure?

Juliana, my girlfriend. She is the best travel companion I could ever ask for.

What are your travel equipment essentials?

A book, a toothbrush, clean socks, and underwear. Anything else is optional.

When did you feel happiest?

I couldn’t pick one single moment. But for the sake of this interview, I will say that every day when I get home, my dog comes running, barking, and wagging his tail.

Who taught you your biggest life lessons?

My mom and my aunts. I am who I am mostly because of them.

You can teleport to any restaurant on Earth: where do you go, and what do you order?

I’m assuming that if I can teleport, I can also go back in time, so I’ll go to my grandparent's house in Concepción, Santander (Colombia), to be able to taste my grandfather’s “cabrito” (goat) or “over asado” (roasted sheep) one last time. I know it’s not a restaurant, but if I have that power, there’s nothing else I’d rather eat.

Tell us about the most adventurous food you’ve ever eaten.

Definitely, a bowl of ceviche at the beach in Tayrona National Park. I know where you were going with this question, but considering the results (spoiler alert: the worst food poisoning of my life), I’d say that ceviche is the most risky and adventurous food I’ve had.

Drink of choice?

Beer. And Coffee. And feijoa juice.

Where do you feel most at home?

I can easily feel at home anywhere I feel loved and appreciated.
