Óscar Pachón

Meet our Bogotá, Colombia-based Motion Graphics Designer.

Tell us about yourself.

Well, I'm a graphic designer, animator, leisure-time illustrator, eclectic reader, a wanderer, and cautiously curious; I like animals and Frank Zappa songs, movie posters, and Greta Gerwing (she's a gift to the world). I'm from Bogotá but would love to live on a farm, raising capybaras and growing onions. Otherwise, I'm not that tall, soft-spoken, and half-deaf.

Tell us about your most memorable travel experience.

Oh, believe it or not, I don't have one experience more memorable than another: on every trip I take, I'm always looking for something special to connect with. The first time I went to a wasteland was when I went into the sea; my first trip just with friends, a tour through the towns of Boyacá with the person I love, and so on. It's hard to choose just one, especially because I think I still have so many places to visit, so many landscapes to enjoy, and so much beauty to discover.

Dead or alive, who would you like to join you on an adventure?

My partner is the engine that ignites my life, and with her, I feel peace of mind anywhere. My second choice would definitely be Carl Sagan.

What are your travel equipment essentials?

A good pair of shoes and sunscreen. I almost always carry a book and sunglasses to look cool and clean water, just in case.

When did you feel happiest?

When I realized I was in love with the most fantastic person on the planet. I thought - out of 8 billion people, I was born in the same place and at the same time as her, we studied at the same university and one night we were in the same place. Crossing paths was magic disguised as chance.

Who taught you your biggest life lesson, and what was it?

Samuel Beckett. “All of old. Nothing else ever. Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.”

You can teleport to any restaurant on Earth: where do you go, and what do you order?

There is a restaurant in Salgar, in the Caribbean, where they serve the most delicious octopus in the world. Besides, the place is three meters above the beach, and you can see the infinity of the sea contained between your eyes. I won't tell you the name, so you will be encouraged to seek it out.

Tell us about the most adventurous food you’ve ever eaten.

Eel sushi. You know, Unagi.

Drink of choice?

An Irish coffee, the best of both worlds.

Where do you feel most at home?

Wherever I have clean underwear, free food, and a book by Umberto Eco.
